An antique is an extremely old, rare item that is considered to be collectible today. In antique Chinese furniture the most common wood used is Elm. Elm is found in most regions able to sustain trees. Sometimes different types of wood are used in Chinese antiques. Each wood has its own distinctive grain and colour. Many modern pieces of furniture often use laminate or wood veneer in order to get the look of antiques without the price tag. These are called reproduction antiques. There are a number of different styles of Asian antique furniture depending on when and where in Asia it was made. Asian antiques can be found in a small number of US antique stores, but are more often found in online stores, because antique dealers can purchase directly from Asia and have the item shipped to you. Some dealers also travel to Asia regularly to acquire authentic antique Chinese furniture and other Asian antiques.
